The Benefits of Hiring Freelancers

We are living in what has been labeled a gig economy, which according to Tech Target, “A gig economy is an environment in which temporary positions are common and organizations contract with independent workers for short-term engagement.”

With the changes in what could be considered the traditional workplace, more and more companies, and individuals are turning to freelancers to fill their needs. Beyond the fiscal benefits, there are also experience and quality benefits as well.

Here are a few reasons why you should consider hiring a freelancer.

#1 Less Overhead

Since most freelancers are not in the office and are not on the books as a corporate employee, you do not have to provide a workspace, onboarding training, or even healthcare or retirement plans.

All in all, freelancers cost less because you simply do not have to provide for them the same way you do full or part-time employees.

#2 Flexibility in Demand

When you hire a full or part-time employee, you are guaranteeing them a set number of hours, but when you hire a freelancer, you are only hiring for the hours you need. Be it a big or small project, you’re only paying for the exact man or woman power you need.

#3 High-Quality Work

There is the argument to be made that while the typical employee may be sporadic in quality of work, a freelancer is much more consistent with their performance. Since freelancers are running their own business and rely on repeat business, they have more of a drive to deliver high-quality work.

#4 Expertise

When hiring a freelancer, you are hiring someone for a specific task that they already have the proven skill set for. For example, if you’re looking for someone to design your company site, then you hire a web designer. Or, if you are looking for someone to run your blog, you would hire a blogger. These are both examples of people with specific skill sets that would fit your direct need.

#5 The Freelancer Pool

When you’re hiring an employee, you are selecting from a finite pool of candidates. On the other hand, when you’re hiring a freelancer, you are looking only for a set of skills. It doesn’t matter if the person with those skills in the same city, state, or hemisphere. It makes finding someone that much easier when you don’t have to worry about location or time zone.
